WHAT MAKES A GOOD WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?
IF YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW
I actually care, potentially too much about your wedding day, and perhaps even more so, your marriage. A distant third to that, is your wedding photos. The photographs themselves won't matter at all if those other two aren't great. So I love to encourage everyone to really focus on firstly their relationship, which is the first building block of great wedding photos. And secondly, their wedding celebration itself.
If your wedding day is super stressful and poorly organised and it's not very "you" you're going to be a bit tense and worn out and it's going to show up on your face, which guess what. Will feature heavily in your wedding photos. I cannot photoshop stress out of your wedding photos.
So. I've spent a fair bit of time over the years taking notes on what goes well and what doesn't from a decade of being a professional third wheel. And whether your having your wedding on the gold coast or anywhere else in this beautiful country I have put together some pretty useful resources to help your day go really smoothly. SOME COMMON QUESTIONS I GET AS A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
DO YOU NEED TWO PHOTOGRAPHERS AT A WEDDING?
THE AVERAGE COST FOR A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER IS $4000 THIS NUMBER IS PROBABLY NOT THE MOST ACCURATE HOWEVER AS LOTS OF COUPLES ARE ELOPING THESE DAYS AND ONLY BOOKING THEIR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER FOR A FEW HOURS THE AVERAGE PROBABLY COMES DOWN A LITTLE. THERE ARE DEFINITELY CHEAP WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS AND ALSO THOSE WHO CHARGE 10,000 +
WEDDING ALBUMS ARE ACTUALLY MY FAVOURITE THING TO GIVE TO MY COUPLES.
IT'S SUCH A SHAME WHEN PEOPLE SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON THEIR WEDDING PHOTOS AND THEY JUST END UP LIVING ON A USB SOMEWHERE. PRINT YOUR PHOTOS, MAKE THEM TANGIBLE, TOUCHABLE, REAL. DON'T LEAVE THEM IN CLOUD STORAGE SOMEWHERE TO BE FORGOTTEN. YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER WILL HAVE ACCESS TO BETTER QUALITY PHOTO BOOKS THAN ONES SOLD DIRECT TO THE PUBLIC SO I DO ADVISE PEOPLE WHO WANT THE BEST TO GET IT FROM THEIR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
HONESTLY, A GOOD WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER IS PROBABLY IN FAIRLY HIGH DEMAND AND KNOWS THAT IF YOU TURN THEM DOWN FOR THEIR PRICE THERE WILL PROBABLY BE ANOTHER COUPLE GETTING MARRIED ON YOUR WEDDING DATE WHO VALUE THEIR WORK ENOUGH AND HAVE THE BUDGET TO AFFORD THEM. HOWEVER IF YOU'RE LOOKING TO SAVE SOME MONEY ON YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER SEE IF THEY HAVE A SMALLER PACKAGE WITH LESS INCLUSIONS THAT MIGHT BE IN YOUR BUDGET.
ordinarily I'd say most of the time you can get away without two photographers at your wedding.
I typically recommend you get a second photographer when you've got a wedding with over 200 guests or if there's a significant amount of time you'll spend away from the guests during the day and want pictures of them mingling while you'r away.

Joshua shot our wedding in Germany in 2019. We have kept looking through the photos throughout the year. We were looking for a Photographer that captured raw, honest and beautiful photo's for our elopement in Mullumbimby - when we came across Josh's stunning portfolio we knew he was the guy. Josh was super helpful when we first enquired and continued to be a great touchstone in preparation for the big day.
